Player support

Football players from the England squad have taken time from their busy schedules to show support for the campaign by donating their boots.

Emile Heskey – Aston Villa and England
"I consider myself very lucky to play football for a living, it's a great privilege. It's always important to put something back and do what you can for those less fortunate. Shoe Aid for Africa is a great way to raise the profile of children living in poverty, and I'm more than happy to donate my boots to the campaign."

Matthew Upson – West Ham and England
"Sadly there is still the problem of poverty around the world, and we have to do what we can to make a difference. As footballers we have a responsibility to use our position to raise the profile of campaigns like this one. I'm right behind Shoe Aid for Africa and I know it can have a positive impact for the children."

Robert Green – West Ham and England
"Being a goalkeeper perhaps makes my gloves just as important as my boots, but I'm happy to give what I can to this campaign. To kids who have so little, a pair of shoes can make a huge difference. I'm committed to Shoe Aid for Africa, and I urge everyone to give what they can."

Benni McCarthy – West Ham and South Africa
"Coming from a poorer part of South Africa myself, I know what it is like to be an aspiring footballer in Africa! I was lucky enough to be spotted and given the opportunity to play for a number of prestigious European clubs. But there are many more young African children who can only dream of what might be. I am therefore delighted to support the Shoe Aid for Africa campaign that brings shoes to African children who may otherwise go barefoot and happy to donate a pair of my boots to this worthy cause. If it helps just one child fulfil their dreams, it’s worth it......"

eto

This year the campaign is being rolled out across Europe, and Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o has pledged his support to the international campaign.

Samuel Eto’o – Barcelona and Cameroon
"My greatest joy was the day that my father gave me the shoes which allowed me to play what I love most of all: football. Leave your footprint in Africa, donate your shoes."
